The US Department of Defense has announced the winner of the contract for the US Army Compact Semi-Automatic Sniper System (CSASS). The $44.5 million contract was awarded to Heckler & Koch for their modified G28E submission. The contract is for 3643 of the rifle packages which appear to be a replacement for the M110 SASS system currently in use and made by Knight Armament Company (KAC). The G28E uses a Operators Suppressor Systems (OSS) over barrel suppressor to minimize the size. Beyond that, we have not heard much about the details. The picture below is of the G28E that H&K had on display at shot show and is topped with a S&B scope. It will be interesting to see if the US Army sticks with their preferred Leupold scopes that they have used on the M24 and M110 systems up to this point. We’ll provide info as it becomes available.
