Comments: Black Hills ammo has a long history of making ammo used by special operations and other military units and their 190gr 300 Win Mag ammo has a good reputation as a solid performer. It is loaded to a factory 2950 fps which is a good velocity for this bullet and it was a decent performer in our two test rifles. The SDs were down and once again we saw a marked increase in velocity from the tight chambered Alpha-66 rifle.

Ruger Hawkeye Long Range Target – Test Results
Average Velocity Standard Deviation Extreme Spread Accuracy w/flyers Accuracy no flyers Best Group
2916 fps 15.61 58 .944″ .944″ .700″
  • The velocity was down 34 fps over factory spec
  • Consistency was not as good as we would like in terms of accuracy.
  • SOverall solid performer.
Tactical Operations Alpha-66 – Test Results
Average Velocity Standard Deviation Extreme Spread Accuracy w/flyers Accuracy no flyers Best Group
3043 fps 19.72 69 .824″ .824″ .560″
  • Strangely, the extreme spread and standard deviation were considerably higher than the Ruger
  • Another load that averaged over 3000 fps in this rifle
  • The best group was very good, right at .5 MOA

NOTE: “Accuracy with flyers” includes the raw averages including groups where the shooter called a bad shot before rechecking the placement of that shot. The “average without flyers” is the average group size with those “flyer” groups not added in.
