| I finally got the chance to try the Karsten Kydex out on the PSS and am happy to report it was worth the time/money invested. I was having a rough time with getting a good weld after re-barreling and having to raise the scope (for chamber clearance) One of the problems was the 56mm objective on the Springfield Gov't scope. I had to go with a 1.125 height, set of rings, and it had my grouping way out of wack. I'm shooting a 700 PSS right hand action, left handed and the Karsten worked out very well. It aint the best looking thing to put on a nice stock, but I'm not worried about the looks, as long as it does what I want it to, and that is what it did. If you're having any trouble getting a good weld with the larger diameter scopes, it's an inexpensive solution.. |

An inexpensive and terrific solution. Great value. I love the simplicity and it's effectiveness. _________________

Funny you should post this becuase just a few hours ago I was on the phone with Mel and was talking about the Karsten. I think I'm going to pick up one for my Marlin XS7 and one for my Savage 93R17.
Where did you get yours? I just emailed Karsten to see how much they are direct from him w/shipping and to see if there is a volume discount becuase I might need 3 total.
Any insights on the A verse B model. I kinda like the knobs to change cheek weld quickly but then think how many times will I really need to change it in the field so the B flush mount option looks good too. |

I picked it up at US Armorment. From what I understand he buys most of their inventory. Shipped USPS priority and arrived in 3 days for about $70.
I chose the external knobs, their kind of klunky but it's easier/faster to move for bore guide and cleaning rod access. Don't really want to carry an allen wrench. I'll try to make some better knobs for it. |

Here is a pic of the Karsten piece with external knobs. I forgot which model because it's been so long.

| That'd be the A model. I've been emailing Karsten right now actually talking about his cheek pieces. He has 3 models to choose from and they are $66 shipped. |

Got one on my .308 PSS. i tried to avoid it, but the rail was just too high so it had to be. Actually it sort of grows on you, and it is very stable and comfortable..[img] [/img] |

| It's an Armalon conversion, uses M14 mags with slightly modified feed lips. |

Well got my Karsten in today and got it all mounted up. Works pretty darn good if I must say so myself. It was a tad tricky to install. I mismarked my hole a bit so I have two holes on one side of the stock. Its not a big deal cuase its an a cheap plastic stock on a cheap plastic rifle (Marlin XS7 .308) Cheek weld is great now. I do have to clearance it a tad to let the bolt clear for removal. I wasn't happy with mounting it far enough back to clear the bolt so I compromised and moved it closer and I'll just clearance the karsten.
I'm gonna try to camo paint the rifle this weekend if I can find the paint locally so I'll post pics when its all done.
Zack
BTW. I ordered friday and got it monday. Utah to Illinois, not bad shipment time at all. |
