As said. water, shelter and fire. Wait as I am past due on the return. Two day wait before "self rescue" begins. _________________ Remington 700 VTR .308

I would follow my quad tracks find bigfoot and then smash his skull in with my broken rifle for making me walk.

Being lost in the woods is diffrent than being stranded or losing you mode of transportation. I been stranded there due to break down. If I know where I am at why not walk out if you are capable instead of hoping someone realizes you are missing and calls for help. When all else fails I use my leather personnel carriers. _________________ John

| 3-4 days, I would still follow the watercourse and move at night (hot climate). A one day hike I would just walk to the pub and make the most of the weekend and hopefully find some tool trying to sell an ATV. |

Agreed being lost in the woods and stranded are two entirely different things. But for the case of this scenario we are working off the prims that we are somewhat on our home turf and just are suffering from lack of resources.
As for my solution. It works in the enviroment I live in and know. If I were to be on unfamiliar turf. Things would be a little different. But remember that some things are always the same. The Sun will always travel in a generally east to west direction, people build citys/town/homes near water sources thus follow nearly any river long enough and you will find civilization again, and a good water source nearly always translates to good food sources. _________________ Recognize what is in your sight, and that which is hidden from you will become plain to you. |

I hunt in the mountains. Even the most remote areas are usually no more than a good day's hike from a fire road or hunting trail. Say another day or two from civilization.
If nobody knew I was out (which they would) and I had to self-rescue, and I was completely disoriented and without a map, I'd start walking downhill. Eventually I will hit a stream. Follow that stream downhill and you will eventually hit civilization. If I'm injured or otherwise can't make good time, the stream will also provide water and food if necessary. Crawdads are generally plentiful and not too hard to catch. _________________

Craw crabs, good one
No one has put a possible use for the rifle sling. You also would have a few rounds of ammo. _________________ Beware of the good idea fairy! |

Handy in the cold or if you want to stop and cook a feed/boil water. |
