Just a few size comparison photos I threw together. 50 rounds of .50 BMG, .308, and .223. It really shows the difference. All are effective in their own environments, but just something about the .50 BMG cartridge that stands out. The case they are in is a MTM 100 round 12 Gauge Shotshell box. It comes with 2, 50 round trays. I removed the top one and use it for a loading block, and with the other one at the bottom, it makes a great 50 round transporter for the .50 BMG. Really not meaning to hijack your thread with this, but I thought I would include another perspective of the .50 BMG. This one is next to a .270 however, but it still looks just as impressive as a round ^^

Great photo. I have to be careful with the Macro setting on my camera. It's real easy to get a blurred shot. Bill T. _________________ "The problem with Socialism is sooner or later you run out of other peoples money." Margaret Thatcher |

Don't have any .50 BMG but here's a 408 Chey Tac, 300WM w/208 AMAX, .308 w/168 AMAX, 6.5 Creedmoor w/140 AMAX, 9mm and 22LR. It's always cool to see rounds next to others to give a good scale so I figured I would throw these up.

Few things will get the range's attention faster than the .50
I have an Armalite AR-50 myself and have a hard time finding ranges
that will allow it. There are two within an hours drive from me that will
permit them, but that's it.
The .50 is the sole reason I started reloading due to the cost of the
round. Figured while I was at it, could reload for the .308 and .223 as
well. So now, thanks to one rifle, I have a full workbench of reloading
gear and a closet full of primers and powder. *chuckle*
I noted those are ball rounds. You typically shoot ball or do you mess
with any of the Amax stuff ? I have a mix of Ball, AP and Amax that I
load up from time to time and was curious what others shoot out there. _________________ Be polite.

The gun is new, as am I to .50 BMG shooting. I'll be lighting it up the week before Thanksgiving. That is the soonest I can get out with my current work load. I'm hoping for the best. This first outing will be for general sighting in, and functionability check. I'm concerned about ejection with factory loads. I've heard about difficult ejection with factory .50 BMG loads. If this is so, I don't know. I'm hoping it is not. Bill T. _________________ "The problem with Socialism is sooner or later you run out of other peoples money." Margaret Thatcher |

Cool deal.
Nothing shoots quite like the .50
You'll either hate it, or be unable to get the smile off of your face
I typically see anywhere from 2-3 MOA on the ball rounds but they're much cheaper to shoot than AMAX or similar match level rounds. OTOH the AMAX rounds will give you single hole capability but check in around $2.50 / each.
Hodgdon US869 powder meters very well but will be curious to hear what you're using.
The Armalite is single shot bolt action and I have fired countless rounds from Barrett through it with little issue. Barrett seems to come out a little hot imo. . . . _________________ Be polite.

I have a ton of WC-872 and WC-860 I bought from Jeff Bartlett over at www.gibrass.com It is super slow burning, and was originally developed for the 20 MM Vulcan Rapid Fire Cannon round. A lot of guys swear by it for .50 BMG shooting from 30" barrels or longer. I've had good luck with it in my .338-378 Weatherby Magnum. It's actually a coffee table. The rifle in my avatar is sitting on it. It's a type of burl wood that is about a 3 to 4 inch thick slab. I bought it back in Illinois when we lived in the Chicago suburbs, at a speciality shop. He had all kinds of stuff similar, like clocks and other assorted one of a kind furniture. The stuff was all super expensive, but nothing like I've ever seen. I could have spent a fortune in there.
