This may seem like a stupid question, but i have gotten a lot of different answers from different sources. I thought I would try the waters here. How often are you cleaning your rifles? Some have said "never" as it may damage the riflings. Others say after each time to the range. I would love to hear some feedback. |

You're going to get just as many different answers here as you did everywhere else. Some guys clean after every trip, others clean when the groups start to open up. _________________ Now a proud owner of a Larry McElroy built Savage. Stockade Stock. WoTac 4-14. 20" McGowen Bbl. yeah i figured i would get a lot of different answers here too, but this group seems a lot brighter than my others sources. A lot of seasoned veterans here. |

Just to throw in my 2 cents worth, I clean the bore of my .308 about every 100 rounds. Sometimes less, but I don't let it go to far past 100 rounds. When I do go shoot I put at least 50 rounds downrange. So I guess I'm in the group that cleans just about every time I shoot.
It's a good question though!
I'd like to see what others do as far as cleaning and how often.
As for cleaning screwing up the bore, I'd have to say that's redonkulous. Unless you put a heavy amount of bore cleaner in the bore and let it sit for a long period of time.

I clean my rifle every time I finish at the range for the day - so usually between 40-100 rounds. However, I use a brushless cleaner, so there is very little to no wear as a result of cleaning.
I am no expert, but I am sceptical about the amount of damage that can be done through cleaning. Remember that your rifle is designed to withstand the wear of a copper bullet leaving the muzzle at over 2000fps; I think it will be able to handle the odd nudge by a brass jag.
The area you hear about most is the throat of the rifle - just use a bore guide and go steady. Dont go jamming it all over the place willy nilly and youll be fine

| Bore guide? Doesn't seem to come in most generic gun cleaning kits. Where can i pick one up? remember, I'm new to the sport so i have a lot of elementary questions |

Just an idea. Somebody with experience ought to make a quick video showing how to clean them properly. I was watching a few on youtube and the guys seemed to be struggling. (not good for confidence) |
