Does anyone have any personal experience with the Keltec PF 9?
I have been thinking of getting one for maybe a back up to my Glock. _________________ JOEY

Thanks Wargone, I thought they may be like that. I used to have the Keltec Sub-2000 in 9mm and loved it. Never had any problems with it. For some reason though the pistols they make have always seemed cheap and junky. When I seen the new PF-9 I thought maybe they were stepping their game up because it looks like better quality than all the rest.
Thanks for the input. _________________ JOEY

+1, Kahr makes a quality weapon, Kel Tech's are just junk.

I'd have to say that you get what you pay for, but the one that I shot actually wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. My dad bought it because he didn't really want to carry anything bigger, and couldn't afford much more at the time. The trigger pull is very loooong, and with the trigger being fairly narrow, it gets uncomfortable after awhile. There is a trigger shoe that you can buy that really helps out with this, and after my dad installed it and did a little custom grinding on it, it feels way better. The only problem with this, is if you have fat fingers, you might then have a problem slipping your trigger finger inside the trigger guard. Also the mag with the extended finger rest is a must, I hate shooting with my pinky hanging out in limbo. So far the gun has been pretty reliable. Last I heard, my dad has had one failure to go into full battery. It was when my mom was shooting it, so it could have been a limp wrist issue.
So moral of the story I guess would be that I don't think I would buy one. It was actually a fun little gun to plink away at wood blocks with at short range, but there are just better options out there. (not for the same price) Spend a little more money and get something better if you can. I don't want to bash Kel-Tec too much though because I feel they are filling a needed spot in the shooting world. After all, not everyone can afford a Khar. I'd like to check out those new Walther PPS's for use when I go running, but I don't know if I could get used to the mag release after shooting 1911's all my life.
(edited because my teachers always taught me to proof read and fix the mistakes) _________________ Jon |

These pistols are not that bad. They are not up to the quality of Glock or Sig, or other pistols, but if you use them as they are intended, being a back up weapon.
These are not meant to go shooting every weekend at the range, or to run several thousand rounds through, or as many of you have seen the Glock 21 test that is going around the internet.
It is made to slip in your pocket, and used as a secondary weapon for LE, or as personal protection for civvy use. Its best disatance to be used at is around 3-5 yards or less, including in physical contact with the person you are trying to shoot, where most incidents occur at. _________________ Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known.

| I'll be the newb with a differing opinion... I simply couldn't affort a Kahr when I was shopping for a super small BUG, so the PF9 had great appeal with me. I did a couple of days worth of reading on the KelTec forum (ktog.org) and saw that the early models were indeed quite problematic, but the kinks were being worked out pretty well as time progressed. I bought one (hard chrome over OD) and put it through its paces as soon as it arrived. I put about 300 rounds through it that afternoon with only one malfunction, and that was a magazine issue that was easily remedied on the range. I tried as many kinds of ammo as I had available and it showed a definite preference for +P 124 gr Speer GDHP's. It shot much better than I thought it would, recoil is snappy, but it is dead on from 10yds in which is all I'd ever have to use it for anyway (I hope). After that range session, I trust it, and it has been good to me since. I made a couple of holsters for it and it is my off duty gun 99% of the time now since it dissappears under even the lightest clothing, and it also works great in pocket holster. I keep it in the cargo pocket of uniform pants too, and even my good buddy never even knew I had it there until I pulled it out the other day. All in all I am very happy with my PF9, and have no regrets purchasing it. It's decent shooter, lightweight, and super concealable, all in a full power 9mm. Hope that helps a little... |

Thanks, I read a bunch on it myself and felt it would serve well for its intended job. I went ahead and bought one and while I have only put about 125 rounds down range with it, it has seemed to do just fine. _________________ JOEY

With kel-tec, you get what you pay for...
A gun with extremely rough fit and finish, ugly as sin, but it will go bang every time.
If not, send it back to them and they will fix it or send you a new one.
A very simple fluff and buff with smooth out the operation greatly.
I have a P3AT. It is ugly, painful to shoot, and godawful inaccurate. But, it is reliable, lightweight, and teeny tiny. Perfect for its intended purpose, a BUG. _________________

Yea, Joey...most people either love 'em or hate 'em...and they're the ones that never owned or shot one.
I own a PF-9...and carried it all spring / summer long...up until last week, when it got cold enuff for a jacket...and then I dusted off my Para Ordnance P12-45 for fall / winter concealed carry.
The Kel Tec Pf-9 is a small, lightweight, concealable, ...and reliable firearm that I bought for $250 back in May 2008 at gun show. It is a self defense weapon...not a range gun. I ran 300 rounds of 9mm FMJ and 100 rounds of HPs though it before trusting it as a CCW. It shoots POA / POI with Winchester 115Grain Silvertips.
Here are the specs:
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Calibers: 9mm Luger 9x19mm
Weight unloaded: 12.7 oz. 360g
Loaded magazine: 2.8 oz. 81g
Length: 5.85" 149mm
Height: 4.3" 109mm
Width: .88" 22mm
Barrel Length: 3.1" 80mm
Capacity: 7 + 1
...and here is my personal PF-9 ( shown with pocket clip and LaserLyte FLS )

Thanks......That is an old thread. I have owned a PF9 for about a year now and have never had any problems with it. I have ran about 400 rounds through it.
It makes a dandy little backup gun. _________________ JOEY
