Thanks to Madgunsmith, who turned me on to some early 70s Colt uppers and a place to get a Colt bolt carrier group. I finally built my 'retro' AR-15.
I wanted a gun that reminded me of the one I qualified with in basic in the Air Force. Based on what I have read, it would not surprise me if I qualified on an old Model 604 without the forward assist. My memory is not that good, but I seem to remember a forward assist on the gun I trained with.
I got a surplus early 70s vintage Colt upper with the pencil barrel profile and triangular handguards, found a Colt BC and bolt, an old surplus '70s vintage A1 stock with arsenal number still on it, and a newly manufactured LRB lower which I fitted with a DPMS parts kit. I found some some '70s Colt 20-round straight mags at a gun show, bought an old green cotton sling at a gun show and, well, here she is!

Thanks on the compliments! The upper is a BCM 14.5" midlength with a fsc556 comp/hider on the muzzle. The lower is Daniel Defense with magpul MOE grip and stock. _________________ "The more laws and order are made prominent, the more thieves and robbers there will be."

I love the 14.5 middy! That's what my first CMMG is, and it's my favorite configuration of AR. Infact, that's what my next AR will be, too!
Good looking rifle, Marco. _________________ Moose

Every part on this rifle is super nice. This is the first time I built a complete Spikes rifle and love it. Def. top shelf.
I have built many ARs and this is one of the nicer ones I have done so far. The fit and finish of all the parts are nice. _________________ JOEY

Joey,
are those the magpul polymer sights? If so, how do you like them?

Yes. They are the Magpul MBUS and I like them a lot. I have not used them at all on this rifle but on another rifle that actually has use they seem very sturdy and pop up nice and then lay out of the way when not in use. _________________ JOEY

Here's my summer project.
It's not done, on my buddy's lower, bad picture, etc etc. I'll get a range report and more pics up before too long.
