not only am i going to post a picture of a shmoliosis-infected, charles daly 1911, but it also comes with my every day carry, a 9mm. the .45 will be receiving lots of TLC and deschmoeing but i got it at a steal and it is made of real metal, not molded powder. some schmuck dremeled the "Charles Daly" off the slide but that isn't too bad... while the name used to mean a quality entry-level 1911, it has lost its luster recently with sloppy tolerances and such. This one will be (re)assembled with only the best parts, to include a non-drilled, proper trigger and a proper Spur hammer, and maybe some nice slotted grip screws to go with the new Marschal Grips or possibly Hakan Pek's.

The P-01 and his big brother, the SP-01 Tactical (i like decockers...) will both be fitted with the Competition Hammer from Ghost Holster as well as the flatter, less-hooked CZ85 Combat trigger because it feels better, and those slim aluminum grips for carry, Hakans for prettyness. Cool

Fresh from Birdsong

I know Fluffy won't like it but it does have a Cylinder and Slide hammer kit installed. Every thing else is stock except for the Hogue grips that I got til I figure out what grips I want. I was impressed with the Hogues for 13 bucks.

Tell us how you like the Cylinder and Slide parts. Give us your unbiased opinion.

What kind of 1911 is that and what parts came stock.

Inquiring minds want to know.

It is a SA Loaded Stainless. I bought the pistol several years ago but after a couple trips to the range, it pretty much sat on a shelf in the safe. The factory triger pull was so bad, I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.

The C&S kit was easy to install. I did have to fit the thumb safety a little but I took my time and did my homework on it. It really was easy.

The mainspring that came with the kit was too long for my pistol. A guy at Birdsong that seemed to know his 1911's told me to trim a little of it and it would be fine. I haven't attempted this yet. I just put the factory spring back in it for the time being.

When I test fired for the first time, it actually startled me a little it went off. Very Happy

Pistol shot better than I could have hoped. It was like a whole new pistol. Best money I've spent on a pistol.

The only thing I want to change is the ambi-thumb safety. It came on the pistol and I really don't like it. I might replace it at some point but I'm happy with it for now.

Make sure to also buy the following Cylinder and Slide parts:

1. Firing pin stop;
2. Slide stop
3. Extractor
4. Ejector

And also get an Ed Brown extended thumb safety.

+1 on the Ed Brown extended thumb safety. I'm rocking with one on my Taurus PT1911.

It looks like it has been refinished at sometime. If so the price is to high.

Well, I bought some ROCO grips on a complete whim last week, so I thought I'd share.

The new walnut grips definitely feel better in my hand. I think they will improve my shooting, especially in the summer when your grips get sweaty. However, I don't like the lettering on the left side, and the cocpbolo double diamonds are pretty classy.

I guess it's nice to have options. The quality of both sets is fantastic, and I 100% recommend either company (the cocobolos are from woodgrips.com)

Let me know what you think...

New:

Pistol Specs:
Norinco frame, slide, extractor, firing pin, and barrel
Ed Brown Mainspring Housing
Wolff Springs
Mec-Gar magazines
Everything else is from Cylinder and Slide.
500+ rounds, no problem.
