the whole rifle
rifle split apart, notice cut on nose... felt like i got punched in the nose if you were wondering
the upper reciever push pin block is in the rifle still, knocked off of whole rifle, i think my friend opend the pin it and the part fell out but it was split apart as soon as it hit me in the face
another picture of the bolt which was destroyed, actually went flying, people on other firing points came over to see if i was ok
all i said was "Is my nose bleeding?"
surprisingly the barrel was completely in tact
mug shot... cuts on nose

nah i have about 2500 rounds through mine, it was federal xm193 ammo so it shoudl be under warantee
i have a few bushmasters, this is the first problem i have had, and the biggest problem i have had in any firearm so far
heh a little angry
as soon as i saw the weapon was all messed up i was mad, punted a chair 1/2 way down into no-mans land
and this happend at the worst time
attempted to contact customer service, they wont let me just leave a message, ill have to call back on a monday
lessons learned: eye protection is always good, no one is firing a weapon of mine without eye protection, good chance if i didnt have any i probably would have been seriosuly injured
*edit*noticed by picture also that i have a cut on my cheek too*

Jeff, that is insane...I am really happy to hear you are okay though.
I never worked on the AR platform and don't know too much about them yet...What could have done that, guys?
Maybe the bolt had a lug shorn off and the receiver couldn't handle the pressure? Or a very hot round?
The barrel looks fine but the receiver split in two... _________________ I am dyslexia of Borg, futility is resistant, your &#* will be laminated.

Glad to hear you're o.k. Was that one of their composite uppers, or the aluminum? Hope they take care of the warranty. _________________ "Can you imagine what I would do if I could do all I can?" Sun Tzu

Hard to say without being able to handle the parts, but even if the carrier was bad, or the bolt, the reciever should not have split ,JMHO. My guess is a bad forging, or combination of bolt and slightly bad forging. Any other guesses?

Since the bolt is stuck in the receiver, and it looks to me like the hammer is not cocked, I am betting the bolt stayed put on firing. I am very curious to see if there is a casing still in that rifle.
If so that could tell us something. Maybe it ruptured. Or maybe for whatever reason, his bolt was damaged, it vented gas into the receiver, and there was a tiny fissure that would have never been a problem at all?
It seems to me the rifle blew up right around the bolt ahead of the ejection port, but I dunno where the split was actually caused...above the bolt?
Yeah...that article is very similar.... _________________ I am dyslexia of Borg, futility is resistant, your &#* will be laminated.

strange but i now think i remember the hammer NOT being cocked when i first looked down on the rifle while noticing when my hands moved, the lower split open (this was before i knew what happend and was wondering where my reciever went)
the trigger actually works fine still |

Over at ar15.com, someone else had else blew up an AR15 using Federal ammo. You will have to go over there to check out that thread. In that case, the problem was ammo related.
Looking at Jeff's rifle. notice that the magazine is intact. This tells me that the case did not fail. In an AR, when a case fails, the escaping gases will destroy the magazine.
If Jeff's barrel did not burst, that rules out a bore obstruction. If the problem was not the result of a bore obstruction or case failure, we are left with only one other likely causes-- an over-pressure round.
The bolt did not fail because it is still locked into the barrel extension. And the piece did not fire out of battery either.
I bet that he fired an overpressure round. Check out that thread on AR15.com and please try to recover the case. I want to look at that fired case.
Mad.
