Comments: Unfortunately, we had problems with this load. The chamber on the Alpha-66 is cut to match the Federal GMM A191 load and actually headspaces off of the shoulder. But because this rifle was built before the popularity of the 220gr loads, there is no extra space in the chamber and it would not chamber this load at all. Period. So we could not shoot it from the Alpha. The SD in the Ruger was extremely low, which is what we have come to expect from RUAG Swiss-P ammo, but it wasn’t very accurate. We wish it would have worked in our Alpha to see what it could do in that rifle.

Ruger Hawkeye Long Range Target – Test Results
Average Velocity Standard Deviation Extreme Spread Accuracy w/flyers Accuracy no flyers Best Group

  • The Standard Deviation were great with this load, but not accuracy
  • Velocities were not too far off factory spec.
  • Not sure why the accuracy wasn’t there with this load, maybe the bullet?

  • As indicated above, this round would not chamber in our Alpha-66

NOTE: “Accuracy with flyers” includes the raw averages including groups where the shooter called a bad shot before rechecking the placement of that shot. The “average without flyers” is the average group size with those “flyer” groups not added in.
