The United States Marine Corps is moving forward with a plan to increase the size of the Surveillance and Target Acquisition (STA) platoons on the Battalion level. They typical size of a current STA platoon consists of 20 scout snipers and the plan is to increase that to 28, a 40% increase. The reasoning behind the increase is due to the continued increase in demand for the use of scout snipers in both surveillance and direct action target interdiction roles.

An exact date for when this change is to take place has not been announced, but look for it to happen some time in the next year.
