This book is historical fiction about the legendary sniper duel between Zaitsev and Thorwald during the battle of Stalingrad. There is a love story mixed in, which kind of hurts the overall story, but the book has a lot of historical accuracy mixed with fiction, and offers some good entertainment along with historical information. So the reader actually learns some history while enjoying themselves! Mr. Robbins has done extensive research into the battle and the role of the snipers, but there is significant artistic liberties and interpretations so it cannot all be taken as historical fact. The book is a good read.
